Curious about stocking ideas for a 40 gallon hexagon tank that i now have that's extra. I have a 92 gallon corner bow community tank with live plants. So for this one my wife and i were talking about cichlids. I just wanted to make sure i had enough room for the fish. Obviously i'm going for color and quantity, or more so my wife. What do you think, I thankyou in advance.:thm:

What's your tap water like? If it's hard, go african, soft, you can do angels, rams, dwarfs, etc.

It's about 6.8 out of the tap. I was hoping for dwarf cichlids but didn't know how many and male to female ratio.

If you've got lot's of experiance, you could go with german blue or gold ram cichlids. They are demanding however, in the sense that they are delicate to water conditions and are easily traumitized by more aggressive species.

im not that experienced, but i love this site you can see the fish and its easy to do the research, it can take a while. my fiance all ways gets mad because once i get on this site i get so stuck im on it for hours, but i cant help it i love cichlids and i like to learn about them. African Cichlid Genus Gallery have fun i always do.

I probably would not go for African Rift Lake species in a 40 hex as the most important dimension for these guys is the length of the tank.

A couple of rams would be ok - the real problem might be that no matter how experienced you are quality stock is hard to find.

So would a pair of kribensis.

You could certainly have a pair of Angels I think - they would appreciate the height of the tank.

As you say you would like dwarf cichlids, no reason not to go for them. Apistogramma species would be lovely. You want 1 male and 2 females and they would certainly fit the tank nicely.
