What could it be?

Hello everyone!

I've been lurking here for a few months and learning as much as I can from everyone! I have a 20 gallon, moderately planted with RCS that are having babies, as well as a lot of bladder snails, MTS, a few ramshorns and 3 briggs. I have noticed these tiny little white dots that hang out right at the substrate near moss. They move very rapidly. They are so tiny a pic would be impossible. So, are they snails? Shrimp? I am just curious really. With the way the bladder snails are showing up that's probably what they are!! LOL

Thanks to everyone on this forum. I have learned so much! And have spent a lot of money!!! haha I have my daughter begging for an invert tank!!

I would suspect either the ramshorns or the bladder snails. They start out as tiny, tiny light dots, breed almost immediately and have 1 million more! LOL!
 
Move very rapidly? Along surfaces or do they swim? If they're swimming it wouldn't be baby snails. I'm not sure I'd call 'em rapid either- although in perspective for their size I suppose they are.

If they swim they could be anything from copepods, to seed shrimp, to gammarus, to juvenile forms of the loch ness monster. If it's the latter you may need a bigger aquarium.

Bladder snails and Ramshorns DO breed like crazy though. Especially if you don't have anything that will eat the baby snails or the eggs.
 
They stick close to the surface but definitely swim. You can see the copepods? What are gammarus?

OK seed shrimp don't sound so bad. I'm going with that!!! haha
