I came home from welding class last night to a disaster. I open my bedroom door and water is all over the floor. I look accross the room and my 20 long has no water in it at all. My guppies, all dead. I'm standing over the tank looking at it in shock and notice that my dwarf gourami is still alive, barely, so I scooped him up and put him in my figure 8 puffer tank(luckily I haven't started converting to brackish yet). So I get every towell in the house and start cleaning up all the water. It took me over an hour to get everything dry, luckily I have hardwood floors. When I finally get done I go have a mass burial in the bathroom. My guppies I've had forever, my south american bumblebee catfish, all gone. I empty the gravel out of tank and there is a huge crack along the bottom. I have no idea how it got there. There was no sign of any cracks when I got it, and I had it for 2 weeks without any leaking. So I took it back to the LFS and persuaded them to give me store credit for the tank.

But it doesn't end there. I get back from the LFS and turn on the light in my dwarf puffer tank only to find that the filter quit working. My cute little DP was belly up in the corner. So now all I have is my 20 high with a figure 8 and a dwarf gourami, who is doing well now btw. I think I will get another filter for the DP tank and just put my dwarf gourami in there. I'm too depressed right now to set up another 20 to replace the broken one. This really sucks.

im sorry that happened to you:(
im always worried thats going to happen to my 30 gal with all my breeder female bettas and wild guppies.how long have you had the guppies?

thats a bad break... no pun intended.

I am amazed it didn't start a fire. That is what I am afraid will happen in situations like that. Sorry about you loss.

yea i was thinking the same thing, considering all of the electrical equipment around the tank, ad well as the fillter running without any water, which would make the impeller become a heat factory, until it eventually 1)melts (if its plastic) 2) totally burns out, and then the filter is useless because now the motor is damaged too.
if your filter wasnt running when you got home, that is probably what happened to it

too bad, man.... I hope you can start a new tank soon to get your survivor squared away....

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Take some time and figure out what you want to do. The best medecine for this is a brand new tank to play with.
