What do i do if my fish breed unexpectedly?

CRAIGS-LIST-CRAIGS-LIST-CRAIGS-LIST!!!

This used to be an issue at my house. It is so fun for my kids to watch the fry bieing born, etc., so they always want to save them. We scoop them out to a 1g to watch for a couple weeks and then they go on Craigs List. I always have a new home for them within hours.
 
Years ago my angels bred all the time in my community tank. Only a few fry would make it to adult size from every batch. I just let nature take it's toll.

If you really want to save "LOTS" of frys then get another tank.
 
Yup, I have a pond outside filled with mosquito fish, and they breed fast!!! I introduced five, and the population rose all the way to countless proportions in just three months! I just scoop my net in there, and I will catch at least five. I bagg them up and my lfs takes them happily for store credit. comes in handy when I need sum ro water.
 
also, at least with platys, and probably other livebearers, they (reportedly) only need to mate once to have a lifetime of new young... not that the males stop trying, mind you.
 
Its not a life time but they can produce fry for up to six months with out a male.

Kinda like wife's after we say I do. They only need us twice a year. LOL
 
am I the only person with livebearers that have never sired any young? what's the usual gestatio period for a guppy?

Based on when I had guppies, I think it was somewhere around 3 minutes. :grinyes:

How long have you had them? Are there other fish in there that may be feasting?
