what do u think?

What if the first piece weighed 0.41 pounds? Round down to zero? That's what I would have asked the idiot. It sounds like a small shop. I bet the owner would want to know how stupid his clerk is. They bank (really, they bank) on return customers. I would hope the owner will take care of you.

I would demand a refund or they need to throw in some more driftwood. You should have gotten what you paid for.

I would return it all and after I had the money in my hand, expalain to the manager their error in charges.

its not a small store , one of the biggest lfs in philly area, i went to a deli store and weighted all 4.8lbs
i have to drive 40miles round trip, but i will visit store tomorrow and gonna complain. its not about money but i really feel bad about it

but it is about the money. That clerk was wrong.

To me, it's not about money. It's about being treated fairly. I don't mind paying, if I'm being charged fairly. And, Joon, if you don't get a good resolution from the manager, it may be time to either look for another LFS, or start getting better acquainted with the vendor friends on our forums and just use the LFS to lay eyes on things. I hear a lot of good about Msjinkzd and Dixienut, and I'm very happy with the service provided by MGamer20o0. I have nothing against any of the other merchants here, those are just the ones I see mentioned a lot or have dealt with.

i'd like to elaborate on this idea by saying: break the wood into smaller pieces. you'll get it all for free :thm:

I'm with MellowVision on this. I suspect the store falls under the jurisdiction of some Weights and Measures agency -- whether local or state. If they say they sell something by the pound or ounce or gram (or whatever) and check its weight prior to sale, then they can't round up. It's the same thing as buying vegetables by weight or nails by weight. AND, by the way, in Oklahoma anyone commercially selling anything by weight must use approved scales -- not just any old cheapo bathroom or kitchen scales. Further, the scales must show the most recent inspection sticker. Big fines and/or store closure can be levied / ordered for violation of the law down here.
