What do you do when you lose interest?

I had a dry spell When I broke up with my g/f back in NOV. I moved back to CA and was tank less. I actually did not mind not having one since it involved no tank care, or forum Reading :D. But when we got back together BAMM the itch was BACK and stronger than ever. I do learn A LOT from fw. But instead of getting different species and seeing what its like to have different FW fish I jump overboard and decided to make my newest tank a SW, keeps me more focus on learning new and interesting things plus I've ALWAYS wanted a SW tank. Id say that there are many road to take I am currently on the SW and planted Road. Lots to learn and lots to do.

I agree with sammie with regard to wright when I first read that it did seem like he dumped the tank and scrubbed the tank and just dumped more water in it. :rolleyes:

and I think as far as loosing interest Id say that we are indeed human But I was a avid Gamer (ps2, x-box, ect) for MAAAANY years then all of a sudden. I just put the controller down. I dunno maybe I got tired of spending money on things... But I did buy a 360 that lasted for like a month before I sold it (to buy fish stuff :rolleyes: ) But coincidentally I am starting to look into a PS3.

Echo I've seen you on here a lot you even helped me out a couple of times. If the itch has finally "faded" maybe give yourself some time to let it come back. You are very knowledgeable and who knows maybe all you needed was some support from the AC community to get back in the game. What ever you do, you can always look back and see your acomplishments, and say Yea I did that...live your life with no regrets.
 
Thank you everyone for your thoughtful replies. You all bring up very good points.

I figure I'll just stay with my normal maintenance for the time being. All fishies are settled in, all tanks are stable, etc. All I need to do is keep up the cleanings, changes, feedings, plant prunings, etc.

Hopefully the funk will lift and I'll be back to obsessing over details, planning new tanks and all the other fun stuff.

SHK_ATK - thank you for those compliments. Might I ask what advice/suggestions I've given you that turned out to be effective and helpful?
 
Thanks for bringing this up! Our tank is only a couple of months old (5 weeks of fishless cycle and three weeks with fish), but it's not mine, it's for my 4 year old. I love learning new things, so reading obssessively about fish and working on the tank has been a pleasure. I KNOW (after being myself for 45 years) that I have a short attention span and I'll be onto something else soon. My son is not old enough to take over himself yet, so I'll need to discipline myself to do the aquarium chores when interest starts to wane.
 
After going through the beginners learning curve, I decided against massive tanks to try at keeping a few smaller species specific tanks, next on the agenda are Killifish and maybe a Dwarf Puffer. My filterless and heaterless microcosm is working well and my male Betta is caring for his first spawn. No time to get bored here, yet! Actually most of my free time, during the week goes into this hobby!
 
echo...by helping I mean I read what you write down on my post or other posts and take in the knowledge. I'm pretty sure thats how the majority of people learn on this site, I remembered when you where a "betta rescuer" funny b/c i think i filled that role when you changes your name :rolleyes: . I dunno maybe I should try combining your siggy sometime :D
 
I recently relandscaped and moved my tank. It's bought life and excitement back. I plan to do this every few months as well as add some new plants. It's quite rewarding watching the plants grow.
 
How can I get bored when I have eight of them. Actually it does happen so I jusrt do a rescape or try other fish and the feeling fades and all is good in the fishey world.
