i just got some juvie apistos. it's terrible but i've been feeding them fish flakes while i wait for my cichlid pellet order to come in.

in any case, should i be feeding them live food during this growth stage? i try day-old livebearers but they don't seem to be taking it. they would occasionally give chase but i don't think they're catching them. the fry are actually getting pretty big in the tank with them. what do you feed yours?

My kribs do great with live brineshrimp and bloodworms, as well as flake that is moistened and dropped in. Not sure if that is too rich a diet for you..but good for growth.

It is not good to feed live fish to other fish, when it comes to these smaller species. There are nutritional issues.

Live foods are not always easy to obtain, depending where you live, but frozen foods are good; bloodworms (but no more than once or twice a week due to high protein and fat), brine shrimp (live hatched or frozen), plus a couple good prepared dry foods.

Byron.

I feed mine sinking pellets and flakes. They also eat the flufy white fungus growing on my driftwood.
