what do you have in your 20 gallon?

I like rainbow fish and tri color sharks, althogh, if you take good care, the tri colored shark can get up to 18-24 inches. Maby get some fancy guppies, there always nice. After my tank was setup with all my fish, i thought that a large school of neon tetras would look really good, but it was too late. I'd go with the neon's.

The only rainbowfish that would work well in a 20g tank is pseudomugil gertrudae and it should be kept species only.

Neons are small and produce little waste, I think that you could get closer to 16 neons in there without pushing the limits to much.

I love ottos, but.... will this be a planted tank? Also your tank should be established for a few months before you get them.
Think about some pygmy or small cory cats, 2 or 3 as they like groups. They may do a better job for you for cleaning up the bottom. Ottos only eat algea, at least mine never touch the bottom.

1 male guppy
1 female guppy
a bazillion fry (ok, maybe only 30 or so)

plants:
3 flowering apogenton crispus
1 lilly
1 floating penny wart.
