What Do You Say?

It always come sweetened here, unless you are asked what you want before hand. You usually have to specify that you want in unsweetened.

I usually just ask for what I want specifically...Coke, Pepsi, Mountain Dew, etc...but the general term for all these drinks is 'soda' for me. As far as iced tea is concerned, you have to ask for either sweet or unsweet. I prefer mine to be sweet with a lemon.

Soda....Sometimes, when people don't speak good english and they take my order, I say "A Fountain Drink"... You would be surprised how many people go, "A what?"

Here in Texas it's all called coke, and the tea is unsweetened unless you order "sweettea" (pronounced all one word :) ) ya'll.

Doesn't matter. In Texas, many folks call all "pop" and "soda" Coke. Period. You can go out to eat, and when the waitress takes your drink order it goes something like this.

"And what would you like to drink tonight?"

"I'll have a coke, please."

"Okay, we have Coke, Dr. Pepper, Pepsi, Root Beer and Sprite."

"Ahh, make it a Dr. Pepper, thanks."

"Okay, and for you?"

So, if it wasn't an option, it was a fault of the poll, because there is a whole state in which this takes place. ;)

Watcher and Harlock are completely correct. Across the south "soda" and "pop" is called "coke". And if someone does call it anything else but "coke" is a transplant. :D

Harlock,
You described ordering a drink perfectly. :D
