Stopped by the LFS today and picked up 5 ghost shrimp. They were only a quarter a piece so I thought what the heck I'll see if they'll make it. I have a 125 goldfish tank with two 15" koi awaiting their new pond in the spring. I tossed 3 into the large tank and 2 into my 15 gallon quarantine tank. I have about 50lbs of slate in the tank with lots of hiding spots. When I tossed them in on top of the slate I fed the fish. The shrimp all sat there on the rocks for a few minutes and one found a hiding spot. I came back about 5 minutes later and noticed my koi picking at the rocks where the other 2 were. Now its been about 9 hours and they are nowhere to be seen.

So what do you think are they hiding or lunch?

I once bought 40 ghost shrimp and put them in my 30G with 7 3-4" goldfish. Most were munched immediately. 1 survived by hiding under the rocks for a few weeks til it was found dried out on the floor after a WC.

When fish are so large that even adults are edible snacks, survival is slim. In my tank, the adults are too large to eat, so as long as the little ones can hide until they are larger, some will always survive. There's an equilibrium in my tank that allows half a dozen to survive at any given time.

I think you will find them in about a week as....... fish poop.:barf::barf::barf:
