What do you think is the hardiest fish?

Zebra danios all the way, not only can they survive crappy water conditions but they're pretty fast too. I have never kept white cloud's, but their ease of breeding along with their bulletproofness and low bioload sounds pretty good to me.

Gold fish. The toughest fish around. Look at the abuse they get off people and they still live on for years afterwards.

Hey everybody! I have been wondering about what people call "beginner fish". You know, those cheap tough fish that are given to kids to put in bowls without cycling and so on. In your opinion, what is the hardiest fish around? It doesn't have to be one commonly found in pet stores, just one that can take more that most fish.

You aren't seriously looking for a fish to put in a bowl, are you? I don't think there is any fish hardy enough that should be tortured by living in a bowl, but in a proper-sized aquarium I think zebra danios are about as hardy as it gets. Mosquito fish are really tough, too.

Oh, no. I am not planning on putting ANYTHING in a bowl. This is just a question regarding how tough a fish is. Just because a fish CAN live in a bowl doesn't mean it SHOULD.

bettas. apparently they are shipped in tiny bags full of air with barely enough water for their bodies to fit in.

from my experience, zebra danios. I had one in my 5g but it was agressive so it moved down to another tank down the street (4.5g, probably too small, but he is alive). They have never cleaned that tank once as far as I know and the filter is pretty crappy.

Zebra danios also get my vote.

I couldn't say anything about Zebra danios, but I know someone who has kept a school of Black Skirt tetras for about a year and half in a tank that never gets any sort of maintenance. They also tolerate their current liquid rock water parameters like a champ so far...
