What do you think the most underrated "common" fish is?

I agree on the zebra danio note. but i would like to add Glass Catfish. i think theyre common enough since i see them in a lot of fish shops.

After getting some of these little guys ive grown to like them quite a bit. I dont think they get all that much attention here on the forums but Theyre a really interesting fish to have in your stock list. They definitely have the appearance factor for me but theyre behavior is quite interesting as well. I would recommend anyone to get a nice school of these for sure.... oh yeah, and they school too :P

Common Goldies are THEE most underrated fish you can buy. Massed bred for food and treats, able to survive almost anywhere in almost any conditions, it is a very active fish with a great personality. Most of u fish people here probably started with a common goldfish. They are the most recognized fish but the least renowned.

Yup , the feeder goldies . #1 under rated common fish.

Im going with feeder goldfish too,i have some that have become a nice addition to my pond as they grew larger..

American darters and Mudminnows.

I didn't read the entire thread, so I don't know if this has been offered already, but I love my Golden Barbs. They are truly beautiful with their gold and green, and I love to watch them "snuggle".

I have had a trio that I "adopted" from someone else for over a year, and I picked up 3 new ones at the LFS, but I think these might be some kind of a bred-down dwarf golden barb. They are so tiny, I don't know if they'll ever mature to the size of my adults. They also do not hang with the adults.

When I think about this I agree:thm: When I think about how much money we spent on the 6 koi in our pond it makes me cringe. We have 30 something feeders in there all over 6" (costing a total of like $4), and aren't any less interesting to watch than our koi

I kinda dig my glowlight tetras. Everyone says they cruise the bottom and are ultra timid, but mine go everywhere in the tank, spend time exploring by themselves, and don't even get bothered by my spastic male platy trio. Even the little killifish cruises around with them half the time(Mr killi 'aint exactly the brightest bulb).

I say Giant Danios, my LFS told me I could return them after my tank was cycled, but I kept them because they were my first (you know what they say about your first), and went through all that yucky time (cycling period) with me. Plus I think they have great personalities, I call mine the 3 Stooges, they make me smile.

:iagree:

I did the exact same thing
Cycled my tank...got rid of my zebras...now I have 6 longfin zebras in my tank again ^_^
I would say clown loaches but they're not common and are known for their quirky personality...but I'm just a tad biased:rofl:
And I know I'll probably get a few laughs for this one but...I also think ADF are underappreciated...Reason being (for myself)
I had to feed a few of them in a community tank with 6 zebras...and I was using a claw to feed them directly cuz the bloodworms were getting annihilated before they would even hit the substrate
It is by far one of the funniest things to watch them yank on the worms lol
Edit: they kind of hold the claw with their front hands and push off of it with their hind legs...so cute lol

My top choice is the zebra danio, standard fin. The larger they grow, the prettier they get IMO. They have such a nice navy color that glimmers under the right lighting. I esp. like the individuals that have broken lines and dots in their patterning.

I also love cherry barbs and the way all their fins seem to flicker in sync. Black neons, columbian tetras and diamond tetras all great as well.
