What do you think the most underrated "common" fish is?

I love my tiger barbs! I think they get a bad rap as fin nippers, but if you keep them in a large enough group, they don't even bother any other fish.

I think the black neons. Sounds like not many people keep them. They are in the box stores in my area, so if they are here, they must be in a lot of places. They are very, very hardy and stay in the upper levels of the tank most of the time. They interact with each other a lot and don't bother any of the other fish. And they are not afraid of large fish like discus so they don't hide. I only have two in my discus tank and while I'd love to add more, I first want to see if I can find some nice emporer tetras that won't cost an arm and leg. I miss having the emporer's. But if they cannot be found, I guess I'll increase my black neons.

Scissortail rasboras are great. Very pretty in their own way, and theyre a perfect size. I also havent seen many people with gold/blue/three-spot/opaline gouramis, though theyre great fish.

Giant danios, Rosy reds(feeders), sailfin mollies, kerry tetras, black ruby barbs, pearl gouramies, keyhole & rainbow cichlids, & UNPAINTED glassfish & red/yellow tail botias.

Id have to go with BA Tetra and White Clouds. My BA Tetras are constantly playing and chasing eachother around the tank. Its amazing how fast they dart in and out of the plants and decorations. I dont think theyd be as great in anything smaller than a 40g(55 ideally) though because they really need alot of room to play. The White Clouds are just great fish. They always have unique personalities and are constantly playing. Its awesome watching the males flash and spar with eachother over a females attention or territory.

If you have a big enough tank then id have to add Pacu to that list. If you have had one for three or four years youll understand why. They become more like dogs than a pet fish. In fact, my dad used to give his huge Pacu dog treats. Not to mention that if theyre used to you they LOVE getting petted. Its also cool how aware they are of everything thats going on outside the tank. Every time my dog would run in front of the tank all the Pacu woud take off chasing him lol

Agreed. I especially love albinos and their bright oranges noses.

I'd say bettas. Not too many people know how amusing and intelligent they are, on account on how they're sold in those tiny little cups. Then to make things worse, they take the bettas home and stick them in a tiny little bowl/jar, where they can't show their personalities off to their full potential. A betta in a 5 or ten gallon tank is a totally different (happier?) fish!

Agreed!

add purple snakeskin guppies...
