what does everyone think about seachem matrix? has anyone tried it?

Matrix is good, along with Hagen/Fluval Biomax and Eheim's Substrat.

i wasnt expecting it to get rid of nitrates i know the best way for that is either an algae scrubber or constant wc's but i was just wondering if it had a good surface area for biological bacteria cause it looks pretty smooth to me but i've only ever saw it in a bottle i havent ever felt it yet.

Another alternative is allowing pothos vines to grow hydroponically in your tank. Stick cut ends into the water, let it grow roots and watch your no3 disappear. I had a colony in an old HOB on one of my big tanks and no3 never got above 10ppm. I'm a firm believer in pothos.

Are you sure the plant will survive full marine saltwater?

D'oh! I'm so sorry, I didn't even realize that this was the marine section, I came in here from the "new posts" feed. >,<

Don't worry. But now I got an idea what to do with a plant that we have growing in a pot. It is some climbing vine stuff (not sure if it is photos or not) that grows on the ceiling with strings put up. Have to try cut a few strands off and see if they will grow out of my 55gal freshwater tank. :-)

lol it's ok i have fresh and salt so it's a good idea. i dont really have a problem with nitrates yet i was jusy wondering if it was any good for biological cause it looks smooth through the container its in
