Because everyone suggests cutting back on food, even though the snails will just resort to eating the plants in that case, making a problem even worse.

Cutting back food helped keep my snails in check. They NEVER touched my plants unless the plants were unhealthy to begin with.

This thread is a couple of months old...but just for what it is worth I have yet to see a sid eat a snail, or find a noticeable amount of empty shells in tanks I've kept them in...
