Go with the sump. It offers more flexibility and allows you to keep thermo's etc out of the tank. For 350 gallons the sump is more elegant. And trickle filter should provide better oxygenation as well. If you need to use carbon for some reason you just drop a carbon bag in the sump same for peat. You can also go with the higher quality external pumps versus the submerged ones.
