i just started my freshwater tank and i have 1 pleco and 3 small bala sharks in a 30gal tank. i need to know what to do next in the terms of new fish. im hoping to add new fish in next week somtime. i now about the cycle and that has nearly completed. thanks.

A 30 gal tank is too small for any Bala Shark. I do not know if you "need" 180 gallons. What you need is a long tank so they have room to swim. If you plan on getting a large enough tank 6 months will be fine. It will be cramped but (depending on how big they are now) you should be ok.

I beleive a 55 is the smalles I would go with a single bala shark for 6 months from a baby. Hmmmmmmmm still think that is 2 small 75 would be good.

180 gallon aquarium is a minimum...A group of bala shark should really be in a much larger aquarium.

It takes very little to stunt the growth of certain fish. I have even seen platies stunted after a few months in a 5 gallon tank. If at all possible I would return those fish and get something more suitable that you will want in your big tank when you move. If you can't return them at least do very large weekly water changes, if not twice a week. That may help stave off the stunting somewhat.
