Hello everybody,
I currently have a 20 gallon tall aquarium with a couple live plants and a couple fish. I am currently loving the hobby and want to upgrade. I am looking at a 65 gallon tall which is 18.4 x 36.4 x 25. I am looking to make it planted with driftwood and rocks to make a cool design. For my filter i am going with the three stage filtration.. marineland emperor power filter. I will also go with a basic 300 watt heater and maybe some sort of backup heater. As well i might go with some kind of wave maker to create flow as i have one in my 20 gallon and my fish love it. I am not certain on that however.

Now... my problem is picking out the fish i am going to get. I want to get a list made of all the kinds of fish i am going to get. My tap water is currently at a ph of 7.8 so the fish have to like hard water as i dont really want to spend money on a rodi system. I want a community tank with one or two large (8"+) centerpiece fish with lots of color. What fish would you recommend?!?

I'd go with smaller than 8 inch fish, a 3ft tank doesn't have a lot of swimming room for them. A wave maker might be more current than you'd want. I'm not sure if many freshwater folks use them, or do you mean a powerhead? Seems like a bit of overkill on heaters to me, 150 or 200w would probably be fine.

As for fish, what do you like? What do you have already? Pearl gouramis are quite pretty IMO, 1 male & maybe 2 female. And a big school of rasboras, either harlequin or red tailed. Those are all pretty sturdy fish that should be ok in most water. But there are many possibilities.
