So i'm waiting on my rainbow cichlids to come into the LFS. I know that they are herbivores. I was looking at ocean nuitrition, omeaga one, tetra who makes the best herbivore diet. I was also going to suppliment the diet with nori sheets and the marine algae sheets is that ok?

Does no one want to add any suggestions about what to feed my plant plant/algae eating fish?

I don't see a problem with that provided the protein content does not exceed to more than 45% which could lead to digestive upsets.

What is the scientific name of your "rainbow cichlids"?

I wonder if they would eat duckweed. That would be a good food for them that's easy (sometimes too easy) to grow. Plus, once you get it started it's pretty much free.

I did not know that Rainbow Cichlids were herbivors. I think they need protein too. There are always veggy flakes. I would not feed nori, ect. These are SW foods, too much iodine, ect.

The species is Herotilapia multispinosa

As stated by the page on cichlid forum
H. multispinosa is also unique in that it possesses tricuspid teeth, which greatly enhances the ability to feed on filamentous algae, making up a large portion of its natural diet.

I did not know that nori or sea weed has iodine in it. So i guess that is out. What brand of veggie flakes. I just put som duck weed in all my tanks yesterday.

Any brand is OK. Tetra, OSI, ect all make good quality Green/Veggy flakes.
