What have you given up for fish?

I gave up my other hobby.(collecting football cards) So by the way if there are any collectors here I have some 4 sale, LOL I want a new tank!!!

Just my sanity. I'm admittedly cheap, despite the equipment I have. I've built that up over more than a decade. Being cheap has helped me be patient, though .

My car. Well mods to my car. Wanted intake/chip, exhaust deep dish rims, upgraded brakes. The poor thing hasn't even been washed in at least 6 months if not longer.

New clothes. Most of my jeans and pants are falling down past my booty, but I just wear belts. Other then that, not too much. My husband and I both work full time and things are pretty good financially for now. We're pretty lucky ( and grateful!) in that respect.

When I hear of people that gave up electronic entertainment Im surprised as pond breeders sight electronics as the cause for big slow down in the live animal and fish hobby.

As for myself I am feeling quite guilty becasue since getting back into fish after 35 years my life long passion of off road dirt bike and sport bike riding have taken a drastic hit. I use to ride every other day and now Im averaging 1 ride a quarter or 4 times a year, mostly when the Colorado River Run comes to town.

Now I have to decide if Im going to sell them or keep having to recharge batteries, clean out the carburetors and watch hem slowly lose resale value all for neglecting them...

But now that I have a solid handle on tank maintenance and nitrates I think Im ready to goo from 2 week to 3 week water changes, maybe even monthly if my Pothos plants continue to reduce nitrates. Then I can get back in the bikes saddle and enjoy the best of both worlds.

I just can see myself giving up riding, but I have to get back on my machines if I'm going to justify it.

I have given up NOTHING and I have GAINED much by having fish. I could make this a huge post of all the things I have gained so I will instead say that having fish as a hobby has been the single biggest non-medical item that has helped in my recovery.

How do you qualify that? I talk and read better, many other little things we all take for granted, have either returned or improved. If anything, they have my gracious thanks for all they have helped!

I gave up smoking and plans to build a new pc. I really think the economy takes most of the blame there.

not much iv given up, since i was 14 when i started keeping fish and had just moved across the country, but theres probably a lot would have done if i didnt have fish/other pets.
