What i got

Jay, don't know if your thread about "lots of plants" was referring to live plants, but I think you should get fish figured out first before you try to tackle the challenge of keeping live plants healthy. Otherwise, they will most likely rot and die and add to poor water quality. I don't believe you have a water test kit (liquid, not strip tests), so I don't think you have a grasp how much work it takes to keep a tank clean and healthy.

It sounds like, from your slurry of posts, that you just got your tank cycled and are now going crazy adding all kinds of fish. I believe you're going to end up with overstocking and incompatibility issues, and plants are really not going to help that situation if they pollute the water due to your inability to keep them happy as well.

I agree with plah on everything she has stated. I just starting myself, and am still working on just getting the basics, and keeping the fish alive. I wouldn't even THINK of getting live plants and having to deal with any of that. You are just asking for trouble IMO.

Sandy

thanks, Sandy! trust us, Jay, we're both biologists (Sandy's a bio major, and I'm getting a Master's in marine ichthyology). I still have trouble with my plants, and the fish thing took me years to figure out and I go to school for fish!

this hobby takes PATIENCE. if you can't slow things down, let them get under control, and take your time, you're going to end up with a mess. AND you're putting living things at risk.

I'm sure lots of folks on this forum will agree with Sandy's and my viewpoints, but if you're not going to take our advice, well we can't make you.

i agrre with you sandy about everything.my neon tetras were in to small a group and tank, the people here told me what to do now they are in a big tank in a group of 11. the EXPERTS were right. (sarcasm)what a suprise. they are much happier in a big group, and there is no more nipping at all.jay you really should listen, whats the point of asking a question if you dont take their advice?

What i got 2day

Maylasia Driftwood
Product.aspx

3 black skirt tetras

So far without stuff above

2 opaline gourami
2 australian rainbow fish
5 dwarf sunset platy
3 zebra Dainos
1 cory
Please, please get 3 more rainbows, they especially need their school. They never color up right, their behaviour is off, they'll often not have very good appetities, they are not very happy fish without a school. Take it from someone who knows. I had a lone praecox for a few months before I found out that they really needed a school. When I added 3 more praecox, and 4 boesemani and created a combined shoal in my 55 gallon, my God the change in that fella's color and demeanor! He died recently due to an unusual circumstance, but at least he had a few VERY happy months there and I take alot of comfort in that. And at least get your cory a couple of friends. Still not the ideal, but so much better for him.

To be a responsible fish keeper we have to look out for both their physical and social needs.
Take care,
Mary.

Are you listening to anything anyone is telling you...??? Do not get cherry barbs, get more danios, ranbows, corys, or tetras. I swear, sometimes I wonder why I bother.

Sandy

I do to. Repeatedly telling someone something wont make them do anything. Jay, enjoy your setup. If you end up having any problems just post.

Be careful -- Jay apparently has some friends on the mod staff... apparently he can ask us questions all he wants, completely ignore everyone's suggestions, post to let us know that's exactly what he's doing, and then you'll get a little warning IM from a mod telling you that he just really needs our help.

Just letting everyone know that way when these idiots IM you, you're not surprised.
