First I must say how happy I am I found AC. I work in Hvac and am in many different peoples homes daily. I see so many people who have aquariums that are unmaintained and overstocked. One I saw the other day was a 25gallon with 6 very large goldfish in it. The guy said he had just cleaned it the other day (water was cloudy like milk had been dumped in it) He said the gold fish were just dirty. I tried to inform him that he was way overstocked and under-filtered. He still thought the size of his tank was fine lol...I cant get in the heated argument like I want to because I'm a representative from my company. I cant **** the customer off. All I could do is show him pics of my tank to show him how it can look when its done right.
There are so many situations like this I see day to day its sad how misinformed people are
out there. I guess all I can do Is try to give friendly information and hope it helps and tell them about aq . lol that way I can let yall give em hell and not lose my job hehe.:swear:

lol, we would too. I remember I was literally in that guys shoes. Then I came here :) You guys set me strait very quickly.

You should print up some cards for AC and leave them behind near the fishtanks. Sort of a gentle hint ! Good luck.

i see this all the time, a guy has a pleco alone in a 10 or 20 gallon and the pleco is way to big for the tank already, offered my 55. and they said they dont have the room........ yeah, some just dont learn.

I saw a Craigslist ad this week for a 10 gallon tank full of 20 goldfish! People are idiots. Some of my neighbors have overcrowded tanks too, but when I try to tell them so they just laugh and shrug. "They're just fish." :mad2:

yeah not alot of people care about fish, most think, if you cant pet it/snuggle it/train it, its not worth its time... heck i will help save fish over any other animals really...

The misconception from when aquariums first became popular in the 60's and 70's still prevails. The "Inch per gallon rule" and the idea that you don't have to change the water, just top off evaporation. "It's a self-contained ecosystem" and crap like that. Fish aren't any different than any other animal that people buy without researching into proper care, or just ask the pet store employee that doesn't know anything either. How many people keep parakeets in those teeny cages, or turtles in 10 gallons, or rats and mice in aquariums instead of cages on pine bedding so the ammonia from their urine and the oils in the pine irritate their respiratory system? How many people keep hermit crabs in those little kritter keepers that are unsuitable for anything but insects and spiders, or temporary transport?

It's not just fish that are abused.

Why have a tank at all if its just gonna sit there ugly and stinky
