As my title suggests, I am wondering what meds to use for ich with clown loaches and ADF's. Or is there no meds that are good for them and I should remove them all and then treat the tank. A new angel has one spot of ich on her upper fin and I want to treat it before it gets too out of control. I know that both the loaches and the ADF's don't like salt so that is not really an option. Parameters are ammonia 0ppm, nitrites 0ppm, nitrates 20ppm, ph 7.4, temp 80 F.

Ich is highly infectious so treating the whole tank is the best route.

No medication required, just salt and heat. Turn the heater up to 85 degrees and add about 1 tablespoon of salt per gallon. Watch for the ich spots on your angel to disappear then wait two more days before turning down the temperature. Replace 50% everyday for three days after treatment to remove the salt.

This is the ICh treatment article by Daveedka...he is the ICH guru here. I successfullty treated my tank for ICH following this article and did not loose a fish. Clowns can be killed by treatment with ICH meds. The salt works great and I did not loose a fish. Treat the fish and the tank. You can stress them more by removing, you have to treat the tank too anyway.
My loaches were fine with the salt. It took me 24 hrs to add the full dose. The only problem was my Amazon sword didn't care for it much.

They don't loke the salt on a permanent basis, but for ICH treatment it is the best. Don't cut the course of treatment short. You need to do the full course so it doesn't reoccur.

Salt (while it can be very effective) is not the be all and end all solution. Though, I always encourage people to use a non-medicational treatments first when ever possible there are a number of factors that can determine when to try using salt first. If your desease has progressed to the visible phase, it is not to late to try salt baths etc first. However, this may not cure all cases and the only way to know is when your fish either dies or recovers.

I have had great success with Algon's Ich treatment with my CL's. It is not overy potent so the treatment schedule is a little longer than other medications, but I have never lost a fish using it.
