Fish / Fishless cycling. What good is that if I do not have some way to assess the water quality at the end of the whole exercise ?
Well, that's the plight in places where a LFS would draw a blank when you ask them for a Water Test Kit !!
I am into "fishkeeping" for about 4 months now. And I have vigorously looked for all that is considered "a-must-have" for good fishkeeping. Nowhere so far have I come across anything called Water-Test-Kit. The closest you ever get to it is some "anti-chlorine" solution imported from singapore or so.
So guys, tell me - how can I be helped ? Are there other ways to make water more friendlier to the fish ?

Please help.

How many places have you tried? All the LFS's I've seen in my city sell test kits. Maybe you just got unlucky and talked to brand new employees. Or perhaps it would help to ask specifically for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate tests.

In any case, much as I would hesitate sending you to the big chains to buy fish (I've just had a bad experience myself in that regard), PetsMart and Petco definitely both stock test kits, if you have those in your area.

You can also order kits online, and it may well be cheaper, if you order enough at once to make it worth the shipping cost. If you're in the U.S. or Canada, you can order from Big Al's:

Well, I forgot to tell you where I live. I live in India - and believe me, we've got no such think like Water-Test-Kit out here :(
