Yeah, in terms of rental agreements, fish don't normally count, IME. I've always thought that was a little silly. When my family and I were considering moving, we looked into a rental townhouse-- the landlord told us that we could only have one "uncaged" animal, but could have as many fish/rodents/other miscellaneous caged pets as we wanted. We had three dogs at the time, so we didn't move, but I suggested getting one really big cage and dropping it over the entire house as a solution. Then we'd all just be caged pets. >_>

well i have been in your situation, i could have a aquarium in the apartment i looked at but for the size a 55 gallon i would have to get like some sort of high risk rental insurance to have it.

i didnt ask my landlords, I had 11 tanks. But my landlords were pretty easy to avoid

When I read the title of this thread I thought you were some idiot trying to be funny! But now that I see it, lol , I think its ok to have a fish, as there is no way it will disturb your neighbors nor mess up the apartment! (unless if the tank blow or somthing)

It really depends on the landlord. I've had some that had a large no pets clause in the lease but let me keep my fish and turtles with no problem. I also had a landlord with a no pets clause that wouldn't let me run a 15 gal tank in a non-carpeted area. Really depends on the individual person. You best bet would be to just ask. Better to know than to try and sneak a tank in and then be forced to break it all down after its established when the landlord finds out about it.
