What is eveyone running for light

A powerhead, as in an underwater pump, or a HOB filter?

yes a powerhead is another name for underwater pump

yes i know, just wanted to make sure he wasn't confusing them b/c sticking a CO2 line into a HOB isn't a particularly good way diffuse the CO2

i have apenguin HOB filter but the c02 is running off a underwater powerhead

hmm, how often do you change your DIY solution?

I replace mine every 10 days now. Since I started doing that, my plants took off and the algae is pretty much gone.

I can do the 10 days thing too. my problem is the first couple hours I get big spurts of c02. So I do it opposite the light schedule

what do you mean you do it opposite the light schedule?

I change it after the light goes out so it will be going good by the time the light comes back on

I think another contributor to this is the fact that you changed your gravel. This removed most of your bacteria which caused the mini-cycle.

Also, plain gravel is completely void of any nutrients. And depending on the size it doesn't hold nutrients around the roots very well. Try adding an aquatic soil like Black Fluorite or Eco-Complete (they're black like your gravel so you won't have to mess with changing it out again, just throw it on top).

Don't get discouraged. There aren't very many people who get it right the first time.
