What on earth is fish flashing?I've ben reading up on ich...my tank is infested. And flashing fish or fish flashing has been mentioned..ok, call me goofy, but i've never heard of this term.I've gathered its something fish do when stressed, but what does it look like?My 10g is infected with ich and the tetras will sit in one spot for a moment and sort of jerk, the tetras in my 20 g do the same thing but do not have ich.Is this jerking flashing? or just normal tetra swiming behavior?

lol

fish flashing

I believe it's when they rub their body on things as if trying to rub something off. Could be wrong, though.

Flashing

FLashing is when they swim very fast, they shoot around the tank and snap turn or twist and rub on the gravel. It can be an early sign that something is try, like ich. How are you treating the ich infestation??

Salt and increased tank temp are a great method. Just be sure it is okay for the fish you are keeping. I am not sure how the tetras react to higher salt.

I used salt and temp of 86 degrees for my goldfish tank infestation and it was cleared up in less than a week, everyone is happy and healthy now with no ill aftereffects.

flashing is in reference to that jerking movement, but it can be caused by different things. I've heard that "flashing" can caused by ammonia levels being too high, but it's just that jerk spaz movement. I don't think flashing is a scientific word...but i may be wrong :)

Isn't flashing when a fish comes up to the front of the tank and exposes itself?! OK ok sorry to joke around, because if your fish IS flashing, then they are stressed, and possibley near death. If you have ich, you need to treat that because it is KILLING your fish, there are active ich threads going that you could just follow along or i'm sure someone will post a link to that good thread about ich...read up on other ich related threads or just search "ich", you'll find a solution

its basically when the fish quickly rubs against an object in the tank. its called "flashing" because when they do it the light "flashes" across the scales. its a sign that there is something irritating their skin. its can be a sign of external parasites or an infection. its a fish's way of scratching.

yes, the ich in the 10g is being treated as we speak.I was just wondering what flashing ment.My fish have jerked every sence i bought them and i was just curious to see if that paticular action in itself was flashing.LOL, im still confused though, ive gotten a couple of different ansers here.

i'll explain what my fish do, they swim around for a bit, darting and nipping at each other, then one may find a corner to rest in(not on the bottom of the tank or anything)and while suspended it will sort of jerk, flutter, vibrate, twitch however you choose to discribe it.i had assumed this was normal, the gouramis in both 20g and 10g do not do this movement, just the tetras and neon tetras. So, again, i just thought it was a tetra thing.lol And the question still remains...is it? or are they stressed in some way?

Basically the ich had got me thinking because, like i said the tetras have always twiched, but now the 10g tank is infested with ich and i thought to myself..."is that twitching a warning?Could the fish in the 20g tank be infested as well?"

Yep, basically what's been said. You'll see the little guys dart around the tank and jerk bodies. Associated will be scratching against ornaments or rocks.

no scratching or rubbing on anything and i've had them a lil over 3 mths now they've done the twitch every sence day one.If it was ich, wouldnt there be a visible infestation by now? There is allot of bickering between the fish.I've been told that tetras will behave this way and need a ton of places to hide. But, if they sit still for a moment, they twitch/jerk while doing so,again there is no rubbing, lol, would be neat to see a fish do that though. It just looks like some sort of balancing act .lol Doubt the problem in the 20g is ich though...or could be, who knows lol, just may need to test the water levels and see whats up.or may have too many fish in one tank and everyone is a bit stressed. What are my options on figuring out what the problem is?

wish i knew how to paste a video up and let ya see what i mean.

my guppies have been flashing since I got I got them and there doesn't yet appear to be anything wrong with them. Nor have I seen my cardinals start mimicking the behavior ... >.>

I am keeping a lookout, though ...

(0 nitrite, 0 ammonia)

My yoyo and zebra loaches do this all the time and I have had them for 6 months and there is absolutely no sign of disease or parasites. None of the other fish do it and everyone seems healthy. Am-0 Ni-0 Na >20
