what is flashing?

Certain fish also use it as a warning display, ie. african cichlids...It's kind like they're saying, "Back off, I'm using this area right now"

I too have fish that occasionally flash without ever showing any other signs of disease or irritation, but if I do see them flash I pay extra attention to the tank, and usually take it as a sign that it is time to do a water change (or at least test the water parameters). I am just saying that if you are not sure why your fish are flashing keep an eye on them.

PS: Even if you have had your fish for months it is possible (not likely) that some kind of parasite or infection is bothering them off and on. It could be that the fish are just healthy enough to fight off the infection, but that the irritant is not completely eradicated. So again just be watchful.

My yoyo and zebra loaches do this all the time and I have had them for 6 months and there is absolutely no sign of disease or parasites. None of the other fish do it and everyone seems healthy. Am-0 Ni-0 Na >20

Ya my guppies do it too. Well so do my Zebras and white clouds. They were doing it off and on for awhile, but it increased alot when I added plants. I heard it has something to do with their slime coat.

ok, thanks all,i'll keep and eye on them.i do anyways, i cant find anything wrong inside the tank .water tests fine, fish seem happy...except for their territorial behavior and the twitching. They've even calmed down on the bickering sence i redecorated and added a couple of larger plants. The gouramis still do not display any twitching or sign of distress in anyway that i can see. But, ill keep watching out though.

again, thanks all, you guys are great.
