What is going on?!?!

I'm leaning towards bad stock and a disease combo...I've had chain store fish nuke smaller tanks in my early days of fishkeeping.

if the cardinals had the discoloration when you got them, they were already sick.

I would suspect this as a more common issue from LFS as they rotate stock pretty quickly.

I forgot to post that one died 2 days ago and I only have one :(. BUT, the last one looks very healthy and is active, and he is not showing any signs of death. I think he will live and thrive. Will post updates on him

I figured out the problem. The cardinals were in 73F water. The LFS has them around 80F. They said that the tetras don't do well in cold water. I added a adjustable heater set to 79F

Not all tetras like warm water. Cardinals and other tetras perfer around 74-82 depending on species and where they came from. I work in a small LFS and the tetras here are kept at 74-76 and my neons are at 78-80. But they can go down to 72-70 which is still warm. Petsmart/co follow w guideline and most don't know what they are talking about. They will sell you a sick fish and not care to them its money.
