I have three Ap bulbs that are sitting on the bottom of my tank, lying dormant, and one of them has this gelatinous goop forming around it. I've washed it off a couple of times, and let me tell you, it smells vile. Ugg! Then this morning when I cleaned my tank, it was back again, and while I was lifting the bulb out of the water, the entire goop slipped off the bulb, and it was able to float in the water current, almost looking like a jellyfish.

What is this? It can't be good for the tank, but is it bad for the bulb?

TIA

Val

I've had some experience with those bulbs and never heard of what you describe. I have a rule.....if it stinks, it's outta here. Chuck it.....those bulbs are cheap.

When i bought them, almost half rotted. But i didn't care, $4 for a package of 12, i jsut didn't care lol. :dance2:

Your bulb us probably no good, what you are seeing is either mold or fungus growing on it. Like a previous poster sad, if it stinks its outa here, unless its fish food of course :).
