I have 75 gallon tank. Currently I my intake in middle of the take and intake one of the corner. My water is clear.

It depends on your décor & the flow to the filter intake. What filter are you using? In most tanks 20g+ I like 2 filters. On my 75g I have a Rena 3 canister & an AC 70 HOB with intakes a 5-6 inches away from either end. I have lots of plants but not much hardscape right now.

I just upgraded to the fx4 from AquaClear 110

Do you use a spray bar? They offer some flow options; just under the surface, aimed toward the front bottom, etc. I used a "jet" return on my Fluval 404 aimed sort of toward the side middle glass.

Does debris seem to collect somewhere in particular? That isn't all bad, you know where to concentrate when vacuuming during water changes...unless it's some place that shows. You can also often add a piece to make the intake longer but not too close to the substrate.

Personally I'd use both filters you have but I tend to keep fish that like some flow with some calm areas.

Post up some pics, we'd love to see! & maybe able to help more with a better idea of you tank layout & fish.

I'm not understanding where your intake and discharge out per your initial post.

I definitely prefer more than one filter on my tanks that are 29gal and up.

Just to add to the excellent advice above, Ideally, you have the discharge and intakes situated such that the discharge pushes debris to the intake. A direct path is about impossible based on plants, decor, etc, but that's the idea.

As per the good advice you have already received, I can add my own experience.
I have 2 tanks that use FX6 filters (together with other filters). Definitely it is good to have more than one filter in largish tanks, although I do it in all my tanks-
1- 75g with FX6 + AQ 110 (picture below). FX6 intake on left corner, standard 2-spout outlet directed so than one outlet hits the back wall and flows lengthwise along the back of tank from right to left. This produces and overall surface flow.
AQ on right corner (but due to AQ configuration, the intake is somewhat away fro the corner.
2- 125g with FX6 + AQ110 + Penguin 350B (second picture). FX6 (with spray bar covering all of central part of tank and a bit of both sides of tank), and intake on left of tank. AC110 on left of tank, Penguin on right of tank.

Both tanks have been set up in this way for quite a while and I have been happy with the results.
Good luck!

Very nice tank. big barbs

Pretty tank FJB!

ockhmer, like I said you may have to move intake & return around a bit to see what works for your tank. Even a few inches can make a difference. Or move some décor to get a good flow to the intake. Good luck!
