What is the most potent fin rot medication?

When dosing any medications to the tank you should remove the carbon . The carbon will soak up the meds and make them less effective. If you have filters with the carbon built in you can cut a small slit across the top to get the carbon out and still be able to use the filter.... then once you are done with the meds you can either replace the filter or add new carbon to the one you cut to soak up all traces of the meds left over.

clean water

many times fin rot is related to water conditions(not always the case as fin rot is a very general term)

usually the addition of anti biotics is to offset secondary infections caused by the damage from fin rot.

in some cases severe bacterial infection as a result of the rot.
in some cases fin rot is Sx of another issue..which may not be resolved with addition of any anti bacterial medication.

absolutely agree - don't treat a symptom without addressing the cause (clean water).

I am a fan of melafix/pimafix myself for minor soft tissue issues mind you...but if you have really truly bad finrot perhas spreading to body, you probably are now dealing with secondary bacterial infection requiring antibiotics.

The fish did not contract the fin disease when in my tank but I did check ammonium levels and do a 25% water change. I was also told I could do melafix and maracyn at the same time so I am doing that with the carbon removed from the filter.

Eh? I just don't get what's the deal with activated carbon being used without any reason at all. They're simply a waste of cash unless you intend to use them to remove meds, tannic acids, odor and other contaminants.

hmmmm...that pic although a bit blurry looks to me look it should resolve given pristine water and a stress free tank - unless the real situation is far far worse than the pic. melafix will not hurt, but is not a substitute for super clean water.
