What is the quietest filter?

I already stated i don't have the money, i would rather not buy something like a filter knowing i can't afford it.

That one eheim probably cost almost as much as my tank whcih i have 300 invested in it.

I went to petsmart today to get the penguin 200 and i noticed a great improvement but the one i got on the bottom where the motor is it was poping apart almost as though it was dropped. I tried to push it back in but it wouldn't.

Also there is this racket with propeller that i knew from the second i plugged it in there was some thing wrong.
So i disassembled it over and over finding nothing wrong.

To my conclusion i am going to go back and get a replacement again.

ps: I really hope it works because me and petsmart have kinda had enough returning. With the 350 and now the 200 all in a matter of 4 days.

Lets hope for the best!:(

Two more things about eheims: 1) If you get them off craigslist, you'll spend about half as much as if you get them new. Still a chunk o change, but not ridiculous. 2) When you factor in that you only need to change a little of the media every 6 months (for the classic canisters), and the media you change out can be bleached, boiled, rinsed, and reused, they actually pay for themselves in a couple of years.

I got sick of the loud filter in my bedroom and broke down and bought an Eheim 2026 and couldnt be happier, thats just FWIW seing how I know you dont want to spend that much. Also I have a Penguin dual bio wheel (330, 350, I forget exactly what it is) and if the water level is up its incredibaly quiet... I might think either you have a defective unit or something about your setup is different like maybe your getting some kind of resonance. IME the cheaper Whispers and such have been terrible investments and not as quiet as the penguin.

Once in a while I'll get a snail in the impeller on one of my HOBs and it makes a hell of a racket. Last time that happened (Sunday), I had to take down the filter (a penguin 200, I think) and pour it out into a bucket (finding 3 baby sterbas cories, but I digress) and blast out the impeller recess in the motor housing with a turkey baster to get the debris out before the filter would work properly again. This is right next to the head of my bed, and it was silent last night.

I've had Whispers, AquaClears, and AquaTechs and out of all the filters I've owned, I think that AquaClear is the quietest, not to mention it's the best overall filter I've over owned. I like AquaClear products so much I ended up buying an AquaClear HOB filter for my 10 gallon and a powerhead for my 29 gallon.
