What is this? Fungus? Bacterial? Excess slime?

It's really hard to be any kind of precise with the dose - especially when dosing for 4 gallons, not 5. The Kanaplex comes with a teeny spoon type thing that you're supposed to fill (flat) for 5 gallons. I basically have to do that, then remove a bit but totally guessing as to how MUCH. If it's likely to be effective every other day - I'd rather go the cautious route too, especially since I am not totally comfortable with how much I'm putting in to begin with (or not). I was more wondering why you had said that - I understand now. If you think it'll still work, I'll do it every other day.

On another note: The water is a lovely (not) yellowey color at the moment.

Update when you can, with photos, too, please. :)

Will do. You won't believe this (or maybe you will!), but I don't know that I can see that little white bit on her head anymore. I'll take pics tomorrow (not sure how it's going to work trying to photo through the yellow water but I'll try!). Big water change after I get my son down, redosing with Binox but not Kanaplex (yes?) and making sure the replacement water has the salt already in it.

Sorry I'm late getting back to you. I'm guessing you did the water change with Binox only, and of course maintaining the salinity by mixing that in the replacement water.

That's good for now, but I want us to review this plan and tweak it, quickly, if need be, depending on how she's looking, acting, eating, etc.

I'm leaving the house for a while but will check back around 4pm. I hope she's continuing to show signs of improvement.

Yup - I did the water change, added the dissolved salt to the replacement water, brought the old tank water down as far as I could - I was trying to get it to just about her dorsal but she started to panic just before that so I stopped and added in the replacement water. So basically I got about 85% of the water out instead of the 90%+ that I wanted. But she was going to get injured starting to thrash. Added back in Binox but not Kanaplex.

She's eating just fine. Belly looked a bit round today so I gave her a pea (well, a bit less than half) just in case. That's all I'll give her today at all - tomorrow will pick up again with the medicated food.

I took pics and you can still see something on her head, but barely. They're not super clear - will take some more in a little while and post them for you. :)

Updated pics, 2 days into meds, 9 days after onset

Okay - here ya go. She's SO active (I'm used to the much more sedate males!) that it's really, really hard to get a pic of her. Plus she ALWAYS turns and gives me the other side. I'm sorry the one close up is blurry - I took a trillion of them, that's the best, believe it or not. Here are 3 pics. 2 regular, and 1 close up. Looks better than it did a few days ago, even - I think. As usual, click them to make them full size. (See the round belly? I gave her a pea today and will fast her for a day, I think - unless that's some side effect of meds or salt or something??) This is now day 2 of meds, and almost 9 days since I first noticed it. It's now nearly invisible to the naked eye even when you're looking for it. Whacha think?

Great photos! The lesion is looking better. :) Eating that pea and a day of fasting will most likely help her tummy; she probably is a little constipated. Hopefully by tomorrow she will have had things move along nicely.:grinyes:

I would continue the medicated food after a day of fasting. She looks to be on the road to recovery. We don't want to stop the antibiotics too soon, though.

I would say that most likely we will want to go six to ten days. We want to be sure to knock out the infection completely.

She's a beauty! You're doing a great job with her.

Update us again tomorrow, and if you can get her to strike a pose for more photos that would be great, but I know she's being difficult... she is after all - a Diva.

Okie doke. Got a decent pic finally. She's definitely stressed from all the huge water changes and is now hiding (or at least hanging out) in the back of the tank more than she every had before. She was always right up front - always - unless it was pitch dark. Now she's never in the front unless I go and stick my face near the front of the tank, then she comes out. Dunno if this is because she's cold (tank is 74-75), doesn't feel good from all the meds, is stressed from all that goes along with this, or something else, but disturbs me nonetheless.

Anyhow - she's not as wiggly crazy now either <sigh>, which allowed me to get a better pic. 2 pics below - one a normal shot, and one a close up with an arrow pointing to the area. The white is still there, but only *just* - and absolutely not visible to the naked eye. Only my camera's macro lens can see it now.

Tonight she's due for both meds again. Tonight is the 5th day of treatment - am I looking for this white to be gone entirely before I stop? 2 pics below:

And just to make you laugh. I love this picture. Can you not just *hear* her saying "WHAT! What NOW?" :D

She is looking much better. I hope she's feeling better. I don't like to hear that she's not as wiggly and is hiding, but that she comes out of hiding when she sees you is good and encourages me. Her tummy looks a lot better, since you fed her the pea and fasted her. That's good.

The lesion is really looking so much better. Is she still eating the medicated food? I hope so, because this really helps go after the bacteria internally.

I hope with your next update the report will be very good. We can talk about how long to continue the antibiotics, but usually you want to continue long enough to thoroughly wipe out any infection, and you would want to see no sign of any lesion.

I haven't been able to check in as often as I wish, but you and Diva are never far off in my thoughts. I'm wishing the best for her. Please update again when you can. More pics are always helpful.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I love that last pic. That little girl has got some 'tude goin' on, lol. She's great!
