What Is this Plant

[Dabbler II]

This plant has a ferm stock, and broad leaves. the leaves are a pale green on the top and an egg plant purple on the bottom. The LFS that I bought them at had them Labled as Nayaca Ambulia But I can't find anything on them . Has anyone seen them before or have the real name for them

I could be wrong, but that looks just like another plant that I saw at my LFS. It was labeled as "scarlet hygrophilia".

I could be wrong, but that plant looks a lot like potted plants I've seen before. Keep us posted on how it grows, cause I don't think it's a true aquatic plant.

Its a Hemigraphis colorata.
Its not a true aquatic plant and will eventually die submersed in water.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Scarlet Hygro Alternathera sp.? It does look a bit like it.

I'll second that opinion.

Those pics definately DO NOT look like a hygro.

Don't feel too bad - lots of LFS do this - put bog plants (or even outright houseplants) in the tank and sell them. I've heard some employees quoted to say that "they last longer than real aquatic plants"
Yeah, only if you don't know how to care for the aquatic plants

i think i saw something like that in a hanging plant at wal-mart. definately an attractive plant. if you do pull it, put it in some soil and give it some curtain filtered sunlight.

Yeah, that is definitely a terrestrial plant.

This is what is often reffered to as Scarlet hygro, or Red Temple, Alternanthera reineckii. As you can see it looks nothing like your plant. Alternantherea sessilis is sometimes called Scarlet hygro as well and is more purplish in color, but has the same leaf shape, but shorter, as reineckii.

I agree what you have looks like hemagraphis or however you spell that, a bog plant suitable for terrariums not aquariums. It will not last long no matter what you do. It is very common for many pet stores to sell plants that are not true aquatic. They do not nessasarily do it on purpose, they just do not know any better.
