a few weeks ago, oh about 3 or 4 i bought some plants to try to help out some of my fry. well, the mystery snails and the pleco ate up all the stems, so now im back to plastic. so last nite, as im staring into my tank, when i see a little "seashell" moving. i have some shells in the tank, so i guess thats why i never noticed it before. it looks like a snail, just not any of the ones i have, so i think its a hitchhicker from the plants. i dont have a digi, so i iwll try to explain. it kind of looks like a seashell you hold up to your ear to hear the ocean, only a million times smaller. its not even an inch. i like snails, so i wouldnt mind haveing a new kind in there, i just want to make sure its not anything that can hurt my fishes, snails, or plecos in there. if anyone knows what this could be, please let me know. until then, i will try to find some pics on it......thanks in advance!!

Amber,

Sounds like it may be a turret snail. hey remain relatively small and eat algea. In addition they are sort of nocturnal in the sense that they come out more at night and during feeding time. The turret snail is common in plants and could have hitched a ride. If you got a few of them in your tank then you will see them multiply rapidly. HTH

If it is round, it is probably a ramshorn. If it is long and pointy, it is probably a trumpet snail, great fro plants, tunnels in the substrate.
