I'm not sure what that "excess fin mucus" could be. Maybe a bacteria, or fungus (less likely)? Are the fins frayed or just slimy looking?
Often the best first treatment is frequent large water changes, as often as you can. Daily or every couple days, 50% of tank volume if you can. Clean water can work miracles! Really! & it'll help until we can help you decide on a treatment available to you.
