What is this stuff?

Well the brown stuff I have been told are diatoms, but I figured I would include a picture in case anyone had a second opinion, this stuff is mostly on my water temple.
some of the brown spots are the plant itself, I would presume from being consumed by algae?

There is also some quite long hairy stuff growing on my plants, and has taken quite a hold of my sword mostly.

there are also some little brown hairs growing on my moneywort....

what is this stuff?????????

I have that growing on the back wall of my tank... it doesnt look really bad though... dont know about what its called though

Hmm have you read the description for Staghorn? That light colored stuff kind of looks like it, but just a guess.

That or the beginnings of hair algae.

Hard to tell from the picture but I think it may be hair algae. If it comes off easy that's what it is. If it doesn't then I would say staghorn and I have yet to find a solution for that short of trimming off the effected leaves. But plantbrain might have a better idea since I a fairly new at this.

it doesnt wipe off, I literally have to pull the hairs off, and it seems a little darker in colour too.

its like the hairs have rooted onto the plants themselves.

I found a good article about staghorn, and I would think that it is indeed what I have. http://www.aquariumalgae.blogspot.com/

But there are some indescrepancies, the stuff growing on my moneywort, I believe 100% is staghorn.
The longer strands on my sword, might be staghorn, or it could be lots of thread algae... I would say it more closely matches the staghorn.

I guess I will be pruning some leaves today.

A really good way to get rid of staghorn is overdose it with flourish excel. It starts to turn red and then it is totally dead. I would recommend doing that.

Ive been dosing excel since wed, and thurs. and will do some today, continuing with every other day dosing... but this stuff is turning red, and appears to be dying off, and/or falling off the plants.

im happy... Ill see how it goes

still got the freakin brown rusty stuff though.
