I was at my LFS and I saw this wierd thing. It looked scary. It was this grayish greenish underwater lizard looking thing. It was about 6 inches long. It's name started with an a. What is this?? I don't want to get it I would just like to know what it is. It was FW because they had it with an apple snail.

Axolotl, a neotenic Ambystomid salamander from Mexico.

yea they are pretty cool, but i always knew them as mud puppies lol

'Mud-puppies' are usually something different (and quite different to we herpetologists), Necturus spp. salamanders from NE US and Canada.

Very cool creatures, need cold water. I'm suprised they had them at a pet store.

The mud puppies need cold water, the axolotls do not and thrive in room temp (about 75ºF) water. The latter are bred by the thousands for the pet trade and are common in many pet shops.
