aiptasia otherwise known as a glass anemone.
They will spread, and do so fast. They are considered a pest to most reefers because they will sting what they come in contact with. Most attempt to remove them via shooting boiling water or lime juice directly at them via syringe.

Because if you don't kill all of it.. I mean all of it, any little part of it can grow into a new or multiple new aiptasia. I got some in my tank from some cheato that I bought and while I keep killing them another 1 or 2 keep on popping up every couple of weeks.

Pickling lime, boiling water, joes juice, copperband butterfly fish, peppermint shrimp.... all will get rid of it in most cases! If your going to do the injection method (boiling water, pickling lime, joes juice) do yourself a favor and spot feed him right before you do, if he's stuffed he'll sorta fall limp and cant suck himself into a hole and out of reach.
Aiptasia,theres a multitude of ways to keep them under control.I would go with pepperment shrimps or a copperband,keep in mind the copperband will pick at corals too.I always try not using chemicals first.If you can take the rock out that there on run some super hot water on them they will usually drop off and down the drain,Dont try to pick them off,they will expel there guts and fowl your water.Do you know there is someone actually selling these.Glass anems on E-bay?Unbelievable!!
They're actually some of the best natural water polishers. But he's just looking to make a quick buck off someone new to the hobby though.
Dont forget about filefish!! a bristle tail file fish would eat aiptasias up no problemmm and they are reef safe too! At least i think thats what i heard... lol
At our last club members, some of the guys were telling Tiki and I that they were often sold in the 70s and 80s. Newbies that we are laughed. Of course people will be laughing at what we think is great now 30 years down the road too.
