My favorite was probably my angelfish I had when I was a kid. It was very beautiful and tranquil. Either that or the Mollies I have now... they are so awesome. They sample everything in their tank with their mouths, even my arm when it goes in for maintenance! Too cute.
I always had smaller tanks when I was younger (10-20 gal), but last year I set up my first 55gal, and I decided I'd get larger fish that I wasn't able to house in my previous tanks.
I'd have to say my favorite fish are definitely my clown loaches. These guys have such personality and seem rather intelligent. Plus, when they swim up to the glass or surface of the water and look at you head-on, you just have to laugh and smile.
My next tank (which I've been researching/talking about for some time and will hopefully set up something early this coming summer) will likely be a mostly-loach tank. I've looked into a wide variety of loaches since I finished setting up my last tank and am definitely intrigued by a number of different species of this fish.
I have a new favorite. Up until a couple of weeks ago, it would have been a tossup between my Celebes halfbeaks and my zebra otos. Then I found a banded characidium sitting in a tank at Wal-Mart and had to buy it. What an interesting and entertaining little fish! It's fun watching him hunt for infusoria, and he's got a ton of personality for such a small fish. I've read that they can even get to know their owners!
Definately my wolf fish, though it's hard to pick one of them as being more favored than the others. Just the other night one of the smaller ones breached and tried to grab my hand when I opened the tank lid to get a water sample....I love 'em.
but my favorit fishes were the two pairs of chocolate gouramis I had several years ago. I had them with neons that just set the color of the gouramis off splendidly. I got to know each of them personally as they each had thier quirks. the tank was planted with aponegetons and the largest one formed an unbrella of leaves that arched over surface of half the 5 gallon eclipse. the plants formed this canopy that made the gouramis feel quite safe under them while provideing a clear view of the fish.
beginners luck and everything comming together just right made those fish very memorable. probably wouldn't have been the same without those plants haveing grown the way they did.
I have a pair of Kribensis in my tank that I just purchased a couple weeks ago. They are SO colorful for freshwater fish and though they were shy for the first day or so, they come right up to the glass when they see me now. It's so entertaining to watch them go in and out of the caves and decorations in my tank. They'll poke their head out and then suck back in like they're playing peek-a-boo with you.
Ummm...... :idea2:
Duh, my dojo loaches! I love em! They're cute(in a fishy way), and my niece loves watching the "snakes" swim around the tank, playing in the plastic plants, uprooting the plastic plants, rearranging the plastic plants(do you see the reason I have plastic plants yet?). They also love to bury themselves in the gravel with just their head poking out. Anybody who doesn't love loaches, has never owned them. Now go and get some, dammit!
even though i dont own any, i think clown loaches are awesome, nice colours and i hear they have a personality to match
will definetly be getting some when i get a bigger tank
