Hi,
I have a new 25 Gallon tank which was setup from 10 days. I ordered plants online through aquaticplantdepot and almost all my plants leaves are turning black and becoming transparent. I have a 72 W compact fluorescent light. Is it a kind of disease?

It could be a nutrient deficiency. Are you adding any fertilizer or co2?

It may also be simply shock of being moved to a new tanks. I've seen the old growth on plants struggle after a replanting. I usually just trim it off as the new, healthy growth comes in. Are you seeing any new leaves?

The picture looked like an older sword leaf, ready to die.
You need to post your tank's water parameters: pH, gH,kH, temp.,
CO2?, filtration, are you fertilizing. How long has it been set up? 10 days? Give us all the info you can plus the name of the plants you have and where you got them.....online or LFS. Then we'll have some idea what MIGHT be the problem.

PH 7.2
KH 8
GH 8
temp :75

I have penguin power filter (dont know the model) and using Plant gro CO2 system for CO2 , 100% seachem flourite.

Not using any fertilizers.

I see some new leaves and some of them have the same problem and turning to black.

I'm a little confused(which shouldn't surprise anyone on this forum) about the length of time the tank has been running. If, as I thought originally it's only been 10 days, the tank needs to cycle. You don't mention any fish in the tank. Are there any? Do you know about cycling the tank, and if you do, what are your ammonia and nitrite levels? Depending on what those levels are and the type of plants you've put in the tank, that could be the problem. None of the other parameters you gave would cause plants to turn black. You need to cycle a tank with the easy, tough, cheapie, nutrient eating plants. LOTS OF THEM. Again, what are the plants you've got in the tank?
If all of this cycle stuff is confusing to you go to our search button in the upper right corner of the page and then type in tank cycling or just cycling. You'll get much info in our archives.
Hope this has helped some.

That was my thought too, that the leaf in the photo is an Amazon Sword leaf. The brown I see looks like diatoms encrusting it. They are the "brown algae" that Otocinclus cats like to eat and which are typical of new tanks.

Amazon Swords come to you as they were grown in shallow water in greenhouses, with emerse leaves, thick and waxy and on long petioles. They will die back now, as the new submerse leaves replace them, of softer growth and with shorter leaf stems.
