What is wrong with my Pleco?

Thanks for the advice gang, but Gil died. :( So now I just have the daninos

:( Oh...sorry for that. I love plecos.

Depending on how long you've had him and how large he is, he may have had internal damage from stunted growth. If his colors were splotchy/pale it is a sign of stress. And maybe, possibly, in his small environment with smaller fish (therefore less leftover fish food) he may have had problems finding food.
Water parameters are important but in this case I think you were prob fine. It is not necessarily easy to kill common plecos and I would think that your smaller fish would accumulate toxins quicker and die first.
Hope this helps, sorry for your loss!

Sine no parameters were provided it would be easy to think all fish died due to accumulation of ammonia as a primary cause, and poor care as a secondary cause.

Yes, a common pleco needs a 75 gallon tank. A 55 doesn't afford it the needed room for turning, not to mention the water requirements due to bio-load. There is no way I would expect my 15" pleco to live in a 12.5" tank without severe stunting and health problems.

To see if it is still alive, put your hand into the tank and *touch* it...It'll either move or bolt. If it bolts no worries, if it don't move it's either dead or close to it.

When was your last *weekly* water change? How much was changed?

55 is OK for a bristle nose for life 75 minimum for ANY 20" capable fish, common pleco or not. Or at least a tank with an 18" width...

Sorry to hear Dayna :(
