What is your opinion of Stress Coat?

Does BAs make their own foods, or are they identical to a name brand as well? (Nutrafin, possibly?)

Nutrafin is Hagens food. Never say that in front of a BA's owner. Hagen and BA's has this HUGE feud going on right now. All because of the Montreal store taking tons of business away from Hagen's Corporate showcase store that is just down the street from us.

In fact they are so mad at my boss for opening that they will not ship any hagen product to him. Even though their warehouse is 20 minutes away. Instead there is now a 4 to 6 week waiting list for any hagen product for our store and to make sure that we don't under cut them they ship it all the way to our corporate office in Toronto (6 hours away) so they can then ship it to us. So we pay for double shipping. Because of this we no longer carry any hagen products in the store with the exception of replacement parts and filter media. The rest of the BA's stores have also cut back on the Hagen stuff as a protest. Hagen is losing more than we are because of the volume of merchandise that BA's use to buy. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Irony is that we still even with all their attemps to screw us over sell their stuff for cheaper than they do.

Now as for BA's food it is made for BA's by a company in china for BA's. It isn't the best food, but it is much better than nutrafin. We do not use it in the store though. We refuse to. Our staff are the hardasses of the corporation and insist on using a third party food that is much better for the fish. Cost us more but we think that it is worth it.

Make a deal with Seachem for Prime and the Flourish line. I'd save a bundle! ;) Come on, I know you have that sort of pull...

Sorry I'm not quiye there yet.

I do however have a guy who sells me sodium hydroxymethanesulfonate at really cheap prices. You could always make your own.

Iv got a huge jug of Big Als water cond. But Iv been using Prime for a while. Is it worth it to use that stuff or not?

To dechlorinate your water yes. If you have chlorine only that is.
If you have chloramines no. Unless you want to use it with something like ammolock for the ammonia that will be released.

If you are using it for the aloe..... well we have been through that discussion already.

Scott,

Thanks for the aftermarket tips - it will save all of us some money.

Given the problems with Hagen, does this mean you won't be carrying the Aquaclear line?

Asaint

We carry all the filter parts and intangibles (sponges etc...) but not the filters themselves.

We are carrying penguins and emperors as hobs right now. I think there is plans for another brand , but I am not too sure I can always ask.

We did recently get a demo Penn Plax Cascasde filter.
Seems alright but I don't know if we are planning on carrying them or not.
It did have a couple of things on it that seemed gimmicky but the motor did seem pretty powerful. I also like the fact that you can change and modify the filter media if you want to like in the aquaclear

We also got one of thses jobbies in. Penn Plax - Cascade Canister. It is running on one of our display tanks. Seems ok but is sort of hap-hazard in its design.

Looks like they took things from everyone elses filters and made one. One thing is it's really cheap. Again though I have no clue if we are going to carry them. especially since we carry all the XP series and are selling them like crazy. The XP's have clearly made themselves number two in the market behind eheim now. With the new fluval series being so crap it really opened the door for Rena and they stepped in with both feet and pushed hagen out of the way and left them behind.

Personally I would like to see the new tetratech powerfilter series in the store. Apparently they finally worked out the bugs that the mach 1 had. It is suppose to be powerful. I am not too sure when they are due out however.

O.k., now you have me REALLY worried about the fact that I received a bum Nutrafin Master Test Kit from BA's and am awaiting the return postage to send it back for a replacement. I'm not going to get stuck with another bad one b/c someone has a grudge I hope. Oh this isn't good, this isn't good at all...

Don't worry.

The online store has nothing to do with the retail stores.

They are two completely different parts of the corporation and have nothing to do with each other.
From my understanding there is no issues with Hagen there. Especially since you are in the US. The head bashing is in the Canadian market. Hagen was King up here for so long until BA's got big and started to kick them in the butt Think of intel and Amd. Intel had nearly 95% of the market until AMD came along with better cheaper chips. Now they are nearly 50 - 50.

Hagen had a problem with this happening in their back yard. Then BA's had the nerve to open a franchise down the street from Hagens Canadian showcase store here in Montreal. Then started to outsell the showcase store.

The Hagen boys didn't like that too much and that's when all hell broke loose as I previously mentioned.
