what kind of cichlid is this?

I did'nt mean to sound too harsh and was not aimed at any particular person a day ago on this thread in defense of 4.8t. But i still feel the same way. Yes people should do their homework and be prepared to the best of their knowledge before fish keepin. But it does'nt always work out that way.
Their will always be people, some with more knowledge than others who will will buy fish not knowing much about what their buying or the the best situation for the fish.
For what ever reason, maybe family, work, etc; this is reality.
People should just help or give advise when needed or asked and hope for the best...

No I did not know anything, but just using common sense will tell ya not to just aimlessly buy a bunch of fish and throw them in a tank because they have pretty colors. Back when I started keeping fish you actually had to work to do any type of research. Now it is a piece of cake, you can sit on your but and find all the info ya need. Ofcourse your to lazy to even do that, ya got to have other people do the work for ya, when all ya needed was google and some time.

Sorry if I came of rude but all I did was ask one simple question and provide a little info that had not been presented yet in this thread. You've got a long way to go, much more so in life than in fish keeping. Enjoy your fish, while they still are alive, but I'm sure walmart will be happy to sell ya more next month.

well all my other fish i have had for about a year now. only had one die and that was because he didn't like the move from maine to arkansas and back to maryland. i do do research. i'm not to lazy and i'm not asking anybody to do it for me. but if some one has an answer they can give then its easier to get that answer (or so i thought) then to spend hours trying to find it. i don't have a ton of time to spen on the computer. i work for the navy and i have 4 kids. they take up most of my time. you dont know nothing about me to say what i need in life so get off it. i'll just continue to search my questions and forget about asking any thing just too much of a pain in the ***. but when i get some batts i will post a pic of the litle guy.

and i didn't just take a bunch of fish and toss them together. i took a bunch of african cichlids that came out of the same tank with the same label from the same store at the same time. and put them in my tank. now i figured they would be diffrent breeds just from the same place. kinda like a bunch of bass in a lake. they can all be bass and all in the same lake but they will be diffrent types. like large mouth, small mouth, strippers, and such. so i just wanted to know what type of african cichlid this was that is all. not what i need in life or how stupid i am.

Wow bderick67....Your pretty mean, makes me not wanna ask questions. I have africans too but they all look different, and i was wondering the names to each of em....

I actually never took bderick as being mean..just someone stating an opinion,

do your research before you purchase the fish. I think is the point. trying to id the fish after you purchase them could a an exercise in futility.
you are here posting and that is good. if you seek an ID please try posting a picture of the fish. if you are here posting try also searching the internet for information..cichlid-forums is a good start and they give pretty good profiles of the fish(cichlids)

when you purchase fish art a reputable store ask the sales staff some questions. other larger stores will post POP(point of purchase) which can be misleading tho many stores are trying to get better at this.
if you purchase from a tank "African Cichlid's" you already have a starting point on which to base your research. keep in mind tho you may have X-bred cichlids in some cases.

good luck withyour research and please don't consider this b;aasting you..I encourage you to ask questions. but be prepared for some ..Responses.(good and bad);)

it looks like this. i think i found it. Nimbochromis venustus it gets kinda big. the reason it was so hard to find is most pics i found were grown pics and i guess there faces turn colors when they get older. but it does have the same needs as the others so its al good.

Maybe its not my place to say this...but i think that the "arguing" and "flaming" needs to stop. Yes, 4.8t bought some cichlids without knowing which kinds they were exactly. happens to all of us (or most of us whether you admit it or not). if they came from a tank saying they're africans, then chances are they're all africans but different species. it would be different if we had lake malawi and south american cichlids mixed. annnyway, back to the point, this is supposted to be a forum for help, not for flaming people about what they didn't and should have done. i believe that 4.8t just wanted to know what kind of cichlid he (or she?) had and instead of answering the question nicely you people chose to argue about whos being rude and what not...
