I've read many posts about raising the temp. and using salt to get rid of ich. What I haven't found..what kind of salt is everyone talking about?

You can buy "aquarium salt" from the LFS, but, it is cheaper to buy a big bag of the water softened salt, or kosher canning salt. Just don't get anything with iodine, or anti-caking agents in it... regular table salt has both of those things, so, don't use table salt- even the "iodine free" kind, it will still have the anti-caking agent, which isn't good for fish.

I just use the iodized salt I use for cooking. Most fish are chill with the small amounts of iodine, unless maybe you have fry or something. The need to use 100% pure crystal salt is seriously overblown and I don't think anyone's fish has ever died of iodine toxicity.

I have helpped many of my Fish-friends with ICk. Very good success rate with this salt.

...and the iodine concentration is NOT an issue......

Agreed. The fish would be preserved in brine at the level of salt that would be needed to raise the iodine (and some anti-caking agents) to actual toxic levels.

Cory catfish do not like the salt, had to take them out. Now loach still has ich but looks like he is not doing well at all. How long until I should at least stop seeing the ich on him? Should I take the salt out and use meds instead? So far this tank has been a pain. When does it all get better and I have to quit trying to figure out what is wrong?

I've heard you can skip the salt and just raise the temp. I'll let another member confirm this though.
