What kinds of fish should I get for a 2.5 gallon aquarium?

i would get a small filter, like a filter that is "rated" by the manufactor for 10 gallons (a filter that does 50 gph) and then a little tiny heater. i know that marineland made a heater for up to 5 gallons that i have and it workes great, but i havent seen any more at petsmart

well, i have heard that bettas can be scared of large spaces and will sometimes die. but it does depend on the betta. i've been on one of the best betta sites, and they say 1-3 gal. is sufficient.

did you hear that from an LFS worker?

yes, a betta can live fine in a 2.5 gallon, but no less IMO. make sure it's heated, filtered, and lighted with a flourescent bulb. and scarare.... get an azoo palm filter, tera whisper mini internal filter, or a red sae mini filter. for heaters, get a small one about 20-25 watts. and bettas love larger tanks! I used to keep my betta in a bowl (B/C I had no other recourse at the moment.) and he looked so sad... but when I put him in his 10g/ he went nuts with happiness. it's like he never had so much freedom in his life... I felt like singing "born free".

Hey, peeps. I'm getting a 2.5 gallon MiniBow, any ideas for fish? And if someone recommends one fish, I don't want you to recommend it again. I get the point the first time.

Doesn't go well with this:

So please help?

On a forum like this, it is quite common for several people to give the same answer. Among those will be different answers mixed in. That can be a useful tool for you to decide which way to go. Trying to limit the asnwers that people can offer is counter-productive to getting the most information possible.

...which is why this is the extent of my answer.

IMO and IME any site wich refers to itself as "the best site" or similar is probably giving out poor information, which in your case holds true. Actually, I wouldn't put a betta in anything less than 5 g for long term keeping. Any one who states that bettas are scared by large spaces is not getting their info right (and likely does not have any personal expierience to back up thier words), this has never happined to me (and I've kept about 7-8 bettas in tanks WELL above 3g, actually up to 30g - larger to come) nor any other person I know of who's advise I would trust.
