I have a new 10g tank and right now it has some small java ferns along the sides. I'm wondering what other plants I should put in there. It's gonna be a betta tank (and some tetras if the betta will tolerate them). It doesn't really have any substrate besides some large and small rocks so planting is not really an option. I'm looking to get some plants that will be on the floor that doesn't need much substrate to be in. Also some floating. Any ideas?:help::D

Anubius, genius! =] Oh yea I can just tie those onto some drift wood huh? And I'll look into the water sprite too. Is it really invasive?

java fern can also be tied onto driftwood...as can java moss.

Water sprite is not invasive, but is a fairly quick grower. Just pinch off the bottoms if you think it's spreading too fast. Very easy to maintain, especially if it's just floating.

You mentioned floating plants, and bettas do love cover. Red root floaters or dwarf water lettuce would both be great, although you might have to drop the water level a bit to allow room for the leaves. At one point, I'd left several rotala stems floating after a rescape, and they did surprisingly well. It's not typical, I know, to leave them like adrift like that but they just sent out roots all along the stems — and really liked being close to the light. Just an idea. :)

Betta looove floating plants... they make good hammocks. :grinyes::grinyes::grinyes:

Haha sounds good, can't wait to get this started. Anyone wanna send me some water sprite for my b-day coming up since I'm broke? Heh I kid. But yea I really can't wait!

I only have the one sprig - you should post a thread in the marketplace asking for plant donations... Can't hurt!
