I know i've said it before, but go with apistos over cribs. Otherwise, you'll be "that guy" at the lfs that keeps bringing in all those "**** kribs and convicts". Apistos on the other hand will be relished and appreciated by lfs everywhere.

Apistos don't sell as well.

You can bring your kribensis over here cause I can't see em anywhere.
Not too many convicts around here either.....
My lfs has one black convict..29 bucks for this big guy.
I guess it depends where ou live as to what's available.
Apistos, borelli, cockatoo, agassizi (did I spell that ok?) are available.
German rams from time to time. Gold rams time to time.
I guess it depends where you live.

Awwwwwww those convict eyes eh?

So what if your the guy always bringing convicts or kribs down to the LFS? Those apistos your planning on keeping are pretty darn common as well, extremely easy to find them, but thats fine. You could argue that Discus are common, they are, but gee doesn't bother anyone that keeps them. Its all about what you like, not what the other guy can't get that you can. Besides, kribs sell, so why wouldn't ya wanna be the guy bringing them down to the lfs? Apistos sell like crap at LFS's, they are expensive, and most people find them pretty ugly, but then again lets go get the apistos so we can be bringing them down to the LFS only to be told that they won't take them....yeah that makes more sense.

well mooman i dont see why you want to dicourage me from getting the kribs if i pick them over apistos its my choice. plus the lfs sells kribs and cons likee hot buns(plus in the little hole i live in people dont reckocknise a goldfish from a guppy. so they get whats nicer on the spot. apistos take time to color up so they dont stand a chance against kribs at the slp. also kribs are so much easierr to keep(i guess im "that guy getting rich off my fish getting busy !!!).hey swimfins why dont you special order fish from mirdo(montreal slp for lfs's). my slp orders stuff for me. kribs are 3.50 and cons are 5$ juvies unsexed and 10$ sexed. i live in st andre avellin . in between gatineau and montreal. doesnt really matter where i live. only thing that sucks is that since he sells fish to me at the price he gets them he cannt give a warranty. too bad. my main worry is getting the tanks cuz as for buying the fish im on easy street.adult jacks are 14$ and so on . royal discus at 3" are 18$. im so bad

I can't order fish cause I never know what I want lol. I knew I wanted cichlids but didn't care for the bolivian rams or the apistos that weren't colored out and no I can see why people don't want them. They aren't much to look at.
Safari pet shops have kribensis "steinbecher' at 15.00 a pop.
I got to Aqua tropicale which is a large warehouse, fish tanks a bit dirty but I found some beat up Convicts and 'adopted' a male female pair. I know, impulse purchase is not a good thing, but I knew they were hardy and easy keepers so........my first foray into 'sick-lids' :).
I like discus, but too pricey for my taste and I'd hate to lose a 'spensive fish from my own negligence.
The cons were 2/4.99. :) So far so good.

You're right, I push the apistos a little hard sometimes. it really does come down to what you prefer. I was also thinking too locally. Where I live kribs sell for like 2.99 and are readily available, while apistos in lfs are few and far between, expensive and are gone in a few days. The lfs employee that sold me my current pair decribed the fry as "pure profit". Not that I'm in it for the money (God knows), but when they only give your 1/4 market price for them I'd rather breed the 20.00 locally rare fish, than the 3.00 readily available species. I also think they are a nicer looking fish.

Kribs or apistos, either way you're looking at a winner as far as giving you hours of enjoyment.

Why do you guys think apistos sell so poorly? Obviously they are pretty expensive, but shouldn't low demand eventually reduce the price?

Our LFS doesn't buy many because they sit in the tanks for weeks on end or die... not a big market for rarer, more expensive, not as pretty fish at our LFS'...

don't get me wrong, I love apistos but I also love kribs. There are also rarer species within the Pelvicachromis genus.

well im not really buying the kribs for breeding . i just love them so much.if i make a little extra dough than so be it.at what size can i sell them?as for the apistos i wa once a fan . then i fell in love with al blood paroot juvenile that i my slp had rised himself. then i sold him for 100$ = i got a pink convict male in the del. guy was stoned i think he thinks he gave me 10$. oh well . dont do bussines while under the influence.anyways someday ill make an amzon tank with some cories n some tetras. i wanted a double red male and two wild females. sucks because if i orfder them im not sureif theyll be in goood condition. at the price i get them its worth a shot.my next 2 tanks are planned out(community tank than cichlid tank)after that ill see.german rams are nice too maybe ill try them.

I saw really, really nice German rams that were seling for 19.00 each, no, not per pair... Each fish. Beautiful and colorful. Most of the rams I've seen can't compare. German's are the way to go. Or kribensis. I can't make up my mind :p:
