What should I do?

I recenty purchased a 40 gallon "tall" aquarium that came with the fish living in it. One of those fish is a large clown loach. I have already been instructed to return him to my LFS or find him a good hom myself and I am currently working on that right now. As soon as the loach is gone I am going to get some cories for the tank. I can't decide if I should get 1 large shoal of the same type of cory or 2 smaller shoals of 2 differrent types. What do you guys think would be best? If I can have 2 different types (pandas and peppered for example) are there any 2 species that get along better than others? Thanks.

Corys are in their own little world most of time. I love'em!!!

As for your idea, I like diversity, but this is purely up to the individual. With a 40G you ahve the option to decide which works best for you.

Either way, try and keep them in spp specific groups of 6 or more for ideal conditions (4 is a minimum IMO). Yes...I need more in my tanks! ;)

What other fish were you considering, or have in the tank now? This will also play a factor obviously.

You know it would be pretty cool to see about 10 Pandas swimming around! :)

Here is a list of the other inhabitants of the tank...maybe it will help you guys decide what I should do!
1 Three-Spot Gourami
1 Clown Loach (leaving)
5 Silver Tip Tetras
4 Red Phantom Tetras
1 Black Phontom Tetra
1 Neon Tetra (moving to my 29g)
5 Black Neon Tetras
1 Platy
1 Pleco (leaving for a smaller bottom feeder)
I know the mix isn't great, but I bought the tank and that's how it came...all I can do is move things arouand and find homes as best I can.

Hmm...IF all of thes fish get along (I would watch them very closely) and this is the setup you will have, you could easily go with ~6 Pandas

You may want to consider trading in some fish at your LFS though...

ie. 3-Spotted Gouramis are notorous for being aggressive towards lsmaller fish (all your tetras) - Is he full grown (5-6")?

Ya he's definately about 4-5", but so far everyone gets along perfectly. I think I will get rid of the one phantom and replace him with a red phantom but other than that everyone else is staying (other than what I marked as "going away" in the previous list).
